Water containing high amount of salts and ions is treated with different filtration processes such as sand-carbon filters, ultrafiltration (UF), nanofiltration (NF), reverse osmosis (RO) and so on. Water softening by electrodeionization (EDI) is an electrical process to de-ionize water; it is used without any chemical dosing. Sea water, a large source of raw water, can also be brought to high standards by passing it through reverse osmosis filters. This kind of water treatment system is commonly known as Sea Water Reverse Osmosis (SWRO).
Water is also disinfected to get rid of disease-causing bacteria, parasites and viruses with different chemical dosing. To adjust pH levels, lime is combined with filtered water.
